Reflections

Memory lives in what we tend, share, and pass on. This page is a living part of the Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden, a space where visitors, residents, first responders, and families can leave something of themselves alongside the names etched in steel.

These are the words of the people whose lives this Memorial Garden has touched, from the officials who show up every year to the visitors who came looking for somewhere to grieve.

What was supposed to be the worst day in our country's history became a powerful symbol of true American patriotism. Truly, the aftermath of 9/11 signifies our nation's unwavering resilience in the face of adversity. As a community, we commemorate what transpired on that one fateful day at the city of Beverly Hills 9/11 Memorial Garden each year, not to relive the pain, but to serve as an enduring message to all generations and to the rest of the world that we will never forget."

Fire Chief Gregory W. Barton, Beverly Hills Fire Department

My cousin Lorne Lyles' wife, CeeCee Lyles, 33 years old, was a Flight Attendant on Flight 93. Her courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and I hold her memory close with honor and love. She was among the passengers and crew who made the courageous decision to fight back against the hijackers, preventing the aircraft from reaching its intended target. Flight 93 crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

We are so grateful that you continue to host this event each year. My wife's youngest son lost his dad in 9/11, and since they moved to LA it had been difficult to find any memorials. We were deeply moved by your site and last year's ceremony, and plan to attend again.

Collective strength — as a nation we can come together for the common good.

Timothy J. Scranton, former Beverly Hills Fire Chief

I'm very, very grateful that the folks in Beverly Hills are donating the memorial.

Brad Burlingame, brother of Captain Charles "Chic" Burlingame III, pilot of American Airlines Flight 77

I am grateful that here in Beverly Hills, we have our very own 9/11 memorial, a space to reflect, to remember and to educate.

Sharona Nazarian, former Mayor, City of Beverly Hills

Thank you Beverly Hills for making this 9/11 Memorial accessible to all who want to visit it, in solemn remembrance of the day that should never be forgotten.

J.B. Shandrew, Visitor

It is very fitting to be on the ground of the Beverly Hills Fire Station, since the first responders were firefighters and policemen. This location is easy to get to.

The magnitude of tribute that comes out of this small plot is absolutely flooring. It is the most thoughtful memorial to 9/11 outside the crash sites.
